Existing Market:
Jake Norman:
Although
Jake agrees with my targeting of the dog owner market, he also believed that
the idea could be translated to coolers and for larger surfaces. Like suction
coolers that stick to your paddle board or boat to prevent losing your cooler
when waves hit. Penetration into the outdoors market rather than just pets was
his suggestion.
Austin Leigh:
Austin
agreed that because there are so many pet owners, it made sense to continue
focusing on this market, and to continue to provide solutions to some of the
mishaps that can occur during any given day. After providing some of the ideas
in my venture concept, he agreed that I could continue to provide solutions for
animal owners and that the market was promising.
Calvin Weinberg:
Calvin had almost identical
thoughts with Austin, claiming that there was more of a market for animal
products than to try to get into an entirely new market altogether. Continuing
to make pet owners lives just a little more stress free.
Based off of what my “customers” said,
I believe that it is a much better idea to continue to target a market that
would already be familiar with my product and name. By continuing to make
products that help both pets and owners, I could be providing value to my
customers. No one wants their drinks spilled, ruining their things, or their
couch chewed up. These are common problems that have the potential for easy
solutions.
People
always say to give the people what they want, and if easy solutions to minor
pet problems is it, then that’s the best direction to head. If my venture is
launched, I would continue to serve the needs to the pet owner segment of my
market and further provide them with safe and high-quality products to use with
their pets.
New Market:
Neil Neuwirth:
Neil is a close
friend of mine, a dog owner, and a big outdoorsman. With a tiny, well-trained Yorkie,
there isn’t much need for pet solutions. Rather, he said that suction koozies
and coolers would be a great use when surfing, paddle boarding, or going deep sea
fishing. It becomes a huge problem when you lose your only source of hydration
and cool storage because of a big wave that knocks its contents into the water.
Avery Hausse:
Avery
claims he’s more into the camping/hiking part of the outdoors. He said that there’s
always something going wrong when he goes camping, whether it’s the tent, stable
ground, or other factors. By penetrating the outdoors market, I could attempt
to solve these issues.
Although these two people believe
in the success of my venture in the outdoors market, I personally have limited
experience in such, and don’t think I would be efficient in creating solutions
to many of the problems these people’s experience. I participate in a different
kind of outdoor experience, and these issues don’t necessarily resonate with
me.
In order to come up with such solutions, I believe that I’d need to immerse myself extensively to get a feel for what was needed in this market. But already knowing about another, larger market is more promising and less time consuming that attempting to enter this market.

Max,
ReplyDeleteI think your already existing customers give great insight into what your next business venture could/should be. A suction cooler would be an easy next step. I also agree with having a brand name that people are familiar with and can associate with. I also agree with your new market customers in the sense that a more broadened market with larger options beyond just pet-products might be a safer route. I think outdoorsmen products are a higher selling market than that of pet products. It is definitely something to consider.
Max,
ReplyDeleteRegarding your interviews for your existing market, I strongly agree with their advice about how you have better opportunity focusing on the market for animal products. For your next step, I think it's a great idea to come up with different things you can incorporate into the market for pets, which pet-owners will definitley buy. Of course, these new ideas will take time to put into action but with the resources you have previously listed, it will be possible to accomplish these goals.
dear maxwell,
ReplyDeleteyour ability to take information as constructive is important in being a business owner and you conveyed that poignantly in your whats next analysis. i would agree that outdoorsman products are of a higher margin than pet products.
